I don’t usually do much for Earth Day but with everyone going green these days, I thought I’d try to do my part.

I am trying to find easy, simple things I can do to help stop global warming (I don’t plan on buying a hybrid). Has anyone seen that www.EarthLab.com is promoting their Earth Day (month) challenge, with the goal to get 1 million people to take their carbon footprint test in April? I took the test, it was easy and only took me about 2 minutes and I am planning on lowering my score with some of their tips.

I am looking for more easy fun stuff to do. If you know of any other sites worth my time let me know.adrian2514https://www.blogger.com/profile/07117329543115128931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28255750.post-54254755822545082932008-04-03T06:40:00.000+00:002008-04-03T06:40:00.000+00:00Thanks AdrianHere's some sites dedicated to giving...Thanks Adrian

Here's some sites dedicated to giving tips of the sort you need.

Friends of the Earth Tip of the Day
The Guardian Tread Lightly Page
Transition Towns - for when you are ready to start organising your community
Facebook I am Green application
Low Carbon Economy - UK advice siteCo2emissionshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04652356095384563840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28255750.post-48390577116569956442008-04-02T22:22:00.000+00:002008-04-02T22:22:00.000+00:00Hey thanks for the great blog, I love this stuff. ...Hey thanks for the great blog, I love this stuff. I'll try to post here more often as well, but I've had a busy few months and most of my energies are directed at the Yahoo group of the same name (which you are welcome to join and contribute to)Co2emissionshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04652356095384563840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28255750.post-1168774377908454752007-01-14T11:32:00.000+00:002007-01-14T11:32:00.000+00:00Some do, some don't. As the ones I refer to are, o...Some do, some don't. As the ones I refer to are, on the whole, petrolheads, it's not a fair sample.

However, professionally conducted opinion polls are more representative of opinion:

Department For Transport survey, 2006:
http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_transstats/documents/page/dft_transstats_611869-01.hcsp#P19_564

Just over a half (55%) of respondents agreed that 'The current system of paying for road use (e.g. fuel and road tax) should be changed so that the amount people pay relates more closely to how often, when and where they use the roads'.

Just over one in four (44%) respondents agreed that road pricing would be acceptable as long as the overall amount of tax paid by motorists as a group did not increase. The percentage saying road pricing was acceptable increased considerably, to 61%, when the caveat that any extra money raised would be spent on roads and transport was introduced.

So a majority would be in favour of road pricing, provided that it replaced other taxes and the revenue was ear-marked for road and transport costs.

Since this is, in fact, the heart of the proposals for both the national and local versions of the concept, I maintain that many of the objections are ill-informed and are being mislead by poor reporting.Co2emissionshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04652356095384563840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28255750.post-1168715920880956352007-01-13T19:18:00.000+00:002007-01-13T19:18:00.000+00:00It seems even your friends and colleagues disagree...It seems even your friends and colleagues disagree with you.

I think the opposition to road pricing is more about the general dissatisfaction with this administration as a result of massively increased taxes and the general level of control imposed.

For instance, the massive increase in the price of a passport, Identity cards, The Gulf war, the huge increase in prices for public transport, doubling of the council tax, we could go on.

Road pricing is one step too far.

The tracking issue is for many unacceptable. For many others, the cost to introduce or the restriction to movement it will create. If a road is taxed heavily due to congestion, what happens to all those who need to use the road for work? Where do they go & how do they pay the increased cost of commuting.

Also, the basic freedom to move around our own country is being eroded with this proposal. It is not for the government to dictate when and if we can afford to travel to work or see friends and family.

The current system of fuel tax is a fair and cheap way of limiting car use to essential journeys. Road pricing with the added complexities of the technology and administration is an inefficient and unfair burden on the public.

This is why there is such strong opposition to road pricing and such little support for your views.Bikeriderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04910707191328873824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28255750.post-1163443323010617512006-11-13T18:42:00.000+00:002006-11-13T18:42:00.000+00:00Thanks for the tip, their next meeting is this Wed...Thanks for the tip, their next meeting is this Wednesday in Allison Street, less than 5 minutes walk from my office, so I might actually have a look what they are up to!Heikohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06839810379331430109noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28255750.post-1163330396514661732006-11-12T11:19:00.000+00:002006-11-12T11:19:00.000+00:00Thanks.
